History:  Eric Masterson was an architect who became friends with Thor while he was in the identity of Sigurd Jarlson.  After Eric was mortally wounded while trying to aid Thor against the Mongoose, Thor had Odin merge his and Eric's life-forces, resulting in the two men sharing a body.  Thor and Eric found themselves competing for time in their own bodies, and Eric ultimately lost custody of his son Kevin because of his frequent absences.  After Thor took the life of his brother Loki, Odin has him banished and passed his power to Eric.  At first Eric tried to pretend that he was Thor, but could not conceal his inexperience when faced with superhuman threats.  he gradually learned how to wield Thor's power and took Thor's place with the Avengers.  Odin finally allowed Thor to be freed from his banishment, which proved to be the sub consciousness of Eric's own mind.  Thor though at first that Eric should continue in his stead on Earth with Mjolnir, but Odin ultimately designed the enchanted mace Thunderstrike for Eric to wield so that Thor could retain his weapon.  Struggling to find a codename for himself, Eric finally called himself Thunderstrike, unable to think of a better name.  He soon found that his powers as Thunderstrike differed from those of Thor, but came to master his new abilities.  After learning that his enemy Bloodaxe was actually Jackie Lukas, Eric's own girlfriend, he took up the Bloodaxe weapon so that he could combine its powers with Thunderstrike in an attempt to slay Seth, the Egyptian god of death.  He succeeded, but was then corrupted by the Bloodaxe's power.  Eric finally purged himself of the Bloodaxe, giving his life to destroy it.  Thor offered Eric a place in Valhalla for his heroism, but Eric believed that he had been a man first and a hero second.  Odin agreed, and sent Eric on to his own afterlife.  Although Eric was briefly resurrected by the Grim Reaper to serve in his Legion of the Unliving, his spirit has since remained at rest.
