The Avengers by Chris
Batista
The centuries-old battle between Loki and Thor continues far into the future.
Dargo Ktor, the latest champion of Midgard, and bearer of the legendary hammer
Mjolnir, faces a much more dangerous Loki than his predecessors. The God of Mischief
has embraced the technology of the future and become a techno-sorcerer of the highest
order. Dargo is no match for his powerful half-brother and is left for dead after an
apocalyptic battle that sees his wife slain and the city of Minneapolis in ruins. In
the years to come, Loki's power grows. Tannan Six, a once loyal shock trooper in the
service of Loki, has watched in silence as his master's evil overtakes the entire Earth.
While guarding Loki's stronghold, Tannan's curiosity leads him to Loki's trophy
room where he chances upon the shield of Captain America and a wooden walking stick.
Unable to fathom why, Tannan deserts Loki's forces, taking the shielf and cane with
him. Within hours, he is the most wanted man on Earth. In hiding, Tannan meets
Tatiana Maximoff, a young girl with a mysterious past. Forced to flee from Loki's
death squads for two execution-level crimes - she's a mutant and a sorceress - she tells
Tanna about the legend of the Avengers. Realizing he has the shield of Captain
America and the cane that transforms into the Hammer of Thor, Tannan knows the path he
must take. With the aid of Hercules, Maximoff, Thaddeus Stark, and Deva Van Dyne,
the Avengers are reassembled! The five heroes finally find Dargo in the bombed out
ruins of what was once his home city of Minneapolis, and convince him to reclaim his cane
and slam it into the ground. Once again, Thor is reborn! And for the first
time in ages, Loki remembers what it means to be afraid. |

The Hammer Universe by
Chris Giarrusso
Once upon a time, Thor's father Odin, ruler of Asgard, bestowed upon his son the
mystical Mjolnir, an enchanted Uru hammer that could only be lifted by the one being Odin
deemed worthy enough to possess its power. Seemed like an easy way to make his
father proud. But as Thor would soon discover, it's tough to impress your dad when
he's the leader of the gods. Despite having saved the arth dozens of times, young
Thor continued failing to meet his father's impossibly high standards of Asgardian
excellence. Believing his son to be a lazy, overconfident, underachieving delinquent
of a god, Odin decides to teach Thor discipline and humility by confiscating Thor's
magical mallet. Odin giveth, Odin taketh away. To add further insult to
injury, Odin has now given enchanted Uru hammers to each of Thor's Avenger pals in order
to constantly remind Thor of his own unworthiness. Each of these enchanted hammers
can easily be lifted by any Avenger...any Avenger, except for Thor, that is. So in
Mjolnir's place, Thor now carries a humble carpenter's hammer. Thor, god of
thunder...a carpenter? Verily, this is no role for the son of gods who walks amongst
mortals! Indeed, Odin is practicing tough love Asgardian-style, and is determined to
see his son live up to his potential and eventually make something of himself.
"One day," thinks Odin, "my son shall become a doctor!" |

Thor by Juan Cano
The Thunder God is dead. My fellow wraith warrios fail to understand how it
happened, whether it was by the balde of the fire demon Surtur or by Thor's own doing.
All we know is that He of the Hammer - the golden-haired Prince of Asgard - kicked
down the Gates of Hel and screamed his father's name. Our mistress Hela sent out the
war cry, summoning forth the skeletal legion to which I belong. The battle has now
raged for many moons, although time has little meaning here in the realm of death.
And, yes, while we have taken rest from our battle with the blond barbarian, we
have guessed as to what brought him to our land. he continues to bellow his
patriarch's name, calling out for the All-Father, demanding to know his father's
whereabouts. But little does he know that Odin swells no in Hela's kingdom.
Nor does he stand in cursed Valhalla. Yes, the Asgardian knows as thor has
crossed over into the afterlife in search of his father...but his sacrifice has been in
vain. Where resides mighty Odin? Ah, that would be telling. My skeletal
brethren wager that the trickster Loki knows...but does the Thunderer know how to cross
back to life? |
