Thor Mini-Comic
This mini-comic
came out in 1966, and was available in gumball machines. They were apparently
available in different colors, as I've also seen a green one. I don't know if they
had different stories inside with different colors, but I doubt it. The book itself
is about 3/4 of an inch tall and 1/2 of an inch wide, on one side is the words and on the
other page is a picture. And just because I'm such a great guy, I'll tell you the
story.
"A Tale of the Vikings"
Asgard is the home of the great Norse Gods. The ruler of Asgard is Odin the
All-Powerful. His son is the mighty Thunder God...Thor! Besides God-like
strength, Thor has one weapon, the Uru hammer. When he swings and aims this hammer,
he is able to fly! In battle, Thor and his hammer are a team unbeatable! The
Uru hammer, when thrown by Thor, always returns to him. The great Odin has two
ravens... Hugin (thought) and Munin (memory). They fly around the world each day and
tell Odin its news. One day they flew towards the misty mountain Jotunheim.
Strangely, they did not return. Thor was sent to find them. Thor flew
to the east, then to the west, and north, and south, finally... in the mountain's
deepest cave he found the ravens. They were captive in a high hung cage with their
wings tied! Thor was about to rescue them when suddenly there appeared...the beast
Lutefisk. The beast breathed out a fierce tongue of fire at Thor! Thor removed
his cape and let it catch fire...he hurled it at the beast, which for the moment was
blinded! Then Thor quickly tied a rope to his hammer and threw it...smashing open
the cage! As the hammer returned, the bound ravens quickly walked down the
rope...Thor untied their wings and they were free! The beast had recovered! He
raged, roared, and lashed out...Thor leaped and ducked, he waited, and then WHAM, right in
the eye! Lutefisk screamed and fell with a crash to the cave floor! Thor and
the ravens rejoiced and happily flew home to Asgard!
The End!
