History: As ruler of the Arabian Nights-like city of Zanadu within the hidden Mystic Mountain near the kingdom of Asgard, Mogul inherited exotic enchantments, technologies and servants, using them to attack and enslave neighboring peoples, including the countrymen of Hogun the Grim, whom Mogul's forces slew by the thousands.  By capturing their battle standard, Mogul cowed the survivors.  He kept them oppressed by occasionally mystically transferring Zanadu from its actual location in the underground Mystic Mountain (a giant crystal stalactite hanging from a massive cavern beneath the barren Forbidden Land) to the interior of a mountain looming over Hogun's homeland.  Hogun long vowed vengeance on Mogul but was unable to locate Zanadu until, returning from a mission with his comrades Thor, Fandral, and Volstagg, he found Saguta, a warrior kinsman, strung up as punishment for trying to flee the Mystic Mountain.  When Saguta perished, Hogun called out a challenge to Mogul, who briefly appeared in reply before retreating.  Anxious to follow, the Asgardians traveled to nearby Hindi and bested the one-eyed monster Ogur, the bodyguard of Wazir the Prophet, who directed them to the Mystic Mountain.  When the reached the mountain, Mogul's Jinni Devil attacked them, but he turned to smoke after failing to defeat his foes before nightfall, apparently destroyed.  The four warriors entered Zanadu even as Mogul was passing sentence on Alibar, imprisoned for stealing food to feed the poor.  As Thor, Hogun, and Fandral battled Mogul's elite guards and Volstagg followed a beautiful veiled woman, Mogul decided to mystically dress Alibar as a prince, give him the captured battle standard and put him at the head of Satan's 40 Horsemen, a magical army intent on killing all in its path.  Mogul then transferred Zanadu to the mountain in Hogun's land, where his servant Sulibeg mixed a potion of the Spotted Plague.  Mogul exited the mountain, intending to use the potion to exterminate Hogun's people even as the Asgardians fought the Satanic Demon Riders, joined in battle by Alibar Volstagg, meanwhile, discovered that the veiled woman was Mogul's sister; she deviously led him to a trapdoor above a chamber housing the minotaur Mutaurus.  When Volstagg pulled her through the trapdoor as well, she fled to a dungeon that contained the Enchanted Rod of Wondrous Wizard PowerVolstagg used the rod to eliminate Mutaurus, then to disperse Satan's 40 HorsemenAlibar returned to battle standard to Hogun, and then used one of Mogul's enchanted crystals with Hogun's spell of temporal force to destroy Mogul before he could spread the Spotted Plague.  The Asgardians rewarded Alibar by making him ruler in Mogul's place.

Mogul and his minions were imprisoned in the Rod of Wondrous Wizard PowerAlibar fell in love with Mogul's sister Shezada, who freed Mogul while Alibar slept.  Using his power, revealed to be derived from ancient Baghdad, Mogul revived his slaves, captured Alibar, Hogun, and the Asgardian Hermod, and transported the Mystic Mountain to Asgard.  The Asgardians defeated the Jinni Devil, Mutaurus, Satan's 40 Horsemen, and Ogur (now Mogul's servant).  Mogul was mystically contained in Aladdin's lamp, allowing Alibar to rule Zanadu again.  Ogur was later defeated by the Thunderbolts on Earth, and Hawkeye battled Mutaurus.
