Origin: Mercurio was born on the planet Gramos, a world on the opposite side of the Milky Way galaxy from Earth which had been the home of a peaceful- technologically-advanced civilization until a freak space warp opened near the planet. As a consequence of this gravito-magnetic disturbance, only wavelengths at the extremes of the electromagnetic spectrum could pass through the atmosphere, depriving the Gramosians of ordinary life-sustaining light. In an attempt to seal the space warp, Th High Lord of Gramos dispatched the worlds' top psycho-explorer, Mercurio, to Earth. Gramosian scientists had discovered w way to "beam" the mind of a subject into a host form on distant alien wolds for the purpose of exploration. Using this method, they sent Mercurios' mind into the body of wealthy landlord Karl Sarron on Earth. For months, Mercurio used Sarron's wealth to find the necessary materials to build the energy transformer that would steal Earth's electromagnetic field. In the course of his mission, Mercurio detected unusual energy emanations coming from a certain office in one of the buildings his host-body owned, the office rented by Dr Donald Blake. He soon learned that the energy came from Blake's transformation into his true form, Thor. Learning from the High Lord that conditions on Gramos were critical, Mercurio decided to siphon some of Thor's transformational energies to bring his own true form to Earth so that he cold employ his native powers to complete his mission with greater speed. Attempting the transformation, Mercurio was dismayed to learn that he could only partially bring his form to Earth. The left half of his body was a strange negative image of his true self, possessed of energies opposite to his native powers. Mercurio reasoned that he must siphon more of Thor's energies to complete his transformation. Engaging Thor in battle using both his natural and newfound powers. Mercurio wads defeated when Thor covered him in molten iron, causing the opposing energies to converge in Mercurio's system to cancel out on another. Mercurio disappeared, apparently destroyed, but actually was dimensionally transported by Xorr the God-Jewel, the sentient crystallized remains of an ancient alien race possessing vast power. Mercurios' rescue being an accident, the jewel returned him to Gramos. Mercurio told his leader of the jewel's power and was sent with a small battalion to steal from Xorr the energies Gramos needed. Coincidentally, Mercurio encountered Thor while on his new mission. When Thor realized Xorr was malevolent, he and his Asgardian companions helped the Gramosians overpower Xorr so they could confiscate from it the elements they needed to save Gramos.
