GEIRRODUR
note: Bio taken from Marvel Universe Handbook vol 1 (1983)
First Appearance: Journey Into Mystery #101
Real Name: Geirrodur
Height: 6'
Weight: 480 lbs
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Orange-Brown
Distinguishing Features: All Asgardian Trolls are
apelike in build, and covered with coarse, orange-brown fur
Occupation: King of the Trolls
Place of Creation/Birth: Domain of Trolls, Gundershelm
Caverns, Asgard
Known Relatives: Ulla (wife),
Rodi (son)
Powers: Geirrodur possesses the average physical
attributes of his race: greater than human strength (able to lift about 25 tons),
endurance (about 2.5 times that of the average human), and durability (a Troll's hide is
far tougher than human skin). Trolls are, however, generally slower than human
beings, and are not quite as intelligent. Geirrodur is a genius among Trolls (as
well as being a master craftsman) but his intellect would only rate slightly above the
human average. Trolls require less oxygen than human beings, making them well suited
for life underground. Their vision extends far into the infra-red wavelengths,
enabling them to see quite well in the relative darkness of the earth. Trolls are
immune to most Earth diseases, and have natural lifespans of about 1,500 years.
Personal Weaponry: Geirrodur carries a spear called
Tordenstok. It is made of uru, a metal found only in the realm of the Trolls, and
has certain mystical properties as well as being virtually unbreakable.
Origin: Geirrodur was born to the Rock Trolls that lived beneath the ground in Asgard. His father was the master blacksmith and weapons maker of the tribe, and taught Geirrodur all the arts of the trade. When is father died in a war against the Storm Giants, Geirrodur took his father's place. His fame spread throughout Asgard, finally reading the palace of Odin himself. When Loki, god of mischief, sought to appease Odin's wrath over a prank he had pulled on the young Sif, he went to the Trolls to acquire gifts. Through trickery, Loki got Geirrodur to forge the hammer Mjolnir out of the mystic uru metal that the Trolls mined. Loki returned to Asgard with the hammer, among other gifts, and escaped Odin's wrath. (Odin later enchanted the hammer and permitted his son Thor to earn the right to use it.) In return for the favor, Loki helped Geirrodur overthrow the current King of the Trolls, Veidernaris. Geirrodur has ruled the Trolls ever since that day millennia ago, having forged a mystic spear out of the uru metal as a token of power. Among Geirrodur's finest accomplishments during his reign was the design and construction of burrowing machines which, due to the uru metal of their bits and scoops, could actually dig holes into other dimension. Geirrodur's machines has even dug a transdimensional tunnel from the caverns of Asgard into the bowels of the Earth. Geirrodur's rule was only once opposed: for a brief time the Troll warrior Ulik usurped the throne.
