Superhuman physical powers:  Thanks to the jewel, Desak is "immune" to a gods powers.  He can absorb them, redirect them, and even send them back to the sender.  He has sent Mjolnir careening off with just a wave of his hand.  With each god he slays, he grows even more powerful.  It is unclear whether he can teleport as well, or is just extremely fast as to appear to do so.  He does travel from world to world and to other dimensions as well in his quest to slay gods.

History:  Many years ago on his home planet, Desak Sterixian agreed to sacrifice his daughter, Loatia, to Kronnitt, a being which claimed to be one of the planet's gods.  During the ceremony, a spectral woman offered Desak a magic jewel which she promised would save his daughter.  Believing he was merely hallucinating out of grief, Desak allowed the ceremony to be completed.  Even though he sacrificed his daughter, Desak and his people were attacked by a dissatisfied Kronnitt.  Once more offered the jewel by the phantom woman, Desak this time accepted and was given the power to destroy his planet's false gods.  Desak traveled the universe for years, similarly freeing many other alien races from their gods, whether they wanted this or not.  During one of these missions, Desak encountered Thor, Hercules, and Beta Ray Bill, who attempted to defend the gods Desak was battling.  When the gods, named Pennsu and Tae, decided to destroy their own worshippers, Thor was forced to rescue the people, giving Desak the time he needed to kill the gods before teleporting away.  Desak next slaughtered many of the Dark Gods; but their prince, Perrikus, escaped with Adva.  Immediately following the battle, Desak met Zarrko, who warned him of the threat Thor posed.

Desak returned to Earth, where he battled both Thor and the Grey Gargoyle, who was proclaiming himself a god after seemingly killing female Thor emulator Tarene and usurping her hammer.  Desak easily defeated the Gargoyle, then turned to Thor, reminded of Zarrko's warning by the Spirit of the Jewel.  A fierce battle ensued - one Desak nearly won; however, Thialfi handed Thor the Bloodaxe of the Executioner, which Thor plunged into Desak's chest, seemingly killing him.  During the confusion, the Spirit of the Jewel rescued Desak, hiding him away and allowing him time to heal.

In the alternate future of The Reigning (Earth-3515), where Thor ruled the Earth with an iron fist up to the year 2170 AD, Desak finally awoke when Magni, son of Thor, took up his father's hammer, Mjolnir.  Traveling to New Asgard (formerly New York City), Desak killed all he encountered, including Hogun, whom he decapitated.  Desak once more battled Thor and, after combining with the Destroyer armor, killed Volstagg, Fandral, and Loki.  During the battle, it was revealed that it was the Designate, formerly Tarene, long imprisoned by Loki, who traveled to Earth-616's past to empower Desak.  Enraged by the carnage, Thor flung Mjolnir at Desak, killing him, then used Zarrko's technology to traverse to Earth-616's past, ensuring this future would not come to be.

  After sacrificing his daughter to his people's god, Kronnitt, Kronnitt came and attacked them stating that they were blasphemers and sinners.  The Designate empowered him to fight against all gods, and he slayed Kronnitt.  He then goes on to kill Pennsu and Tae, two gods of another world that were cruel to their worshippers, and he is confronted by Thor, Beta Ray Bill, and Hercules.  Thor convinces him that not all gods are evil.  Desak tells him that he will be watching.

  After killing another planets gods, Desak sees in his axe that Odin is dead and Tarene is weakened and decides that the time is right to strike

  Desak is targeting the Dark Gods, that have been freed with Odin's passing.

  Desak has apparently slain all of the Dark Gods except for Perrikus and Adva.  As he's about to finish them off, the escape through the continuum gateway.  As Desak is about to give chase, he is stopped by Zarrko

  Desak confronts Jake Olson, who has transformed himself into a version of Thor, about the Designate's whereabouts

  Desak beats the hell out of the Grey Gargoyle, then begins to attack Jake/Thor.  The Spirit of the Jewel comes to Desak and tells him that he's doing the right thing.  He then blasts Jake/Thor with the tools of ultimate negation.

  The real Thor shows up and takes with Thor-power was in Jake into himself.  Desak arrives and begins to attack again.  Thor unleashes the Odin-power, but it's no good.  As Desak is about to behead Thor, Thialfi delivers the Bloodaxe to him, and turns the tide, allowing Thor to deliver the killing blow
• Thor vol 2 #50
  The Spirit of the Jewel retrieves the body of Desak, and begins the process of restoration.  It is then revealed that the Spirit of the Jewel, the Designate, and Tarene are all one and the same.
• Thor vol 2 #75
  It has been 167 years since he was killed by Thor, and Desak is awakened when Magni picks up Mjolnir

  Desak heads towards Earth to confront Thor and the Asgardians
• Thor vol 2 #77
  Desak begins attacking New Asgard.  During the battle, he kills Hogun by beheading him.  Thor uses the Odinforce, and Magni attacks using Mjolnir, but they are unable to seriously affect him.
• Thor vol 2 #78
  Loki has unleashed the Destroyer, empowered by the spirit of Tarene, against Desak.  But Desak uses his amulet to release her spirit of the armor, and merges himself with the Destroyer.  It is now Desak/Destroyer and the Designate against the Asgardians.
• Thor vol 2 #79
  When Thor realizes his error, he is once more able to lift Mjolnir.  He then hurls it combined with the Odinpower and kills Desak
